Installing IrisBG mobile and IrisBG mobile synchronizer

Introduction

This installation guide assumes general knowledge about how to install software on computers and mobile devices. The guide will show you how to install IrisBG Mobile synchronizer and IrisBG Mobile for IrisBG version 3.
Before you begin, make sure the following is available:

IrisBG version 3 installed on a Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer.
A compatible device for IrisBG mobile.
The latest setup for IrisBG mobile sync.

Note that Windows XP will use "Windows ActiveSync" to communicate with the device, whereas Windows Vista and Windows 7 will use "Windows Mobile Device Centre" for this purpose.

STEP 1 - Preparing for an upgrade

If you are upgrading IrisBG mobile sync, make sure that all the changes on the devices are synchronized before you begin.

STEP 2 - Installing IrisBG mobile synchronizer

IrisBG mobile synchronizer is the software package that will communicate between IrisBG desktop and the mobile device. Depending on your Windows version, you will need to install 3 or 4 prerequisite Microsoft Software Components before you can proceed.

Note that some prerequisite components may already be installed on your computer.

For new installations, install prerequisites for the PC - You will find instructions at the bottom of this page.
Install IrisBG mobile sync by running “IrisSyncSetup.msi”.

STEP 3 - Installing IrisBG mobile on the device using IrisBG mobile sync

Make sure you are logged on to the PC as a user with administrative privileges.
Start IrisBG mobile sync.
Select the "installation" tab.
Make sure the device is connected via the USB cable to the computer.
Select, "Install IrisBG Mobile on device", and click "Start installation".
Follow the instructions.

STEP 3b - Alternative method of installing IrisBG mobile on the device

You will find the necessary CAB files for the IrisBG mobile device available in the IrisBG mobile sync program folder. These files are:

NETCFv35.vm.armv4i.cab: .Net Compact Framework 3.5 redistributable (prerequisite)
sqlce.ppc.wce5.armv4i.cab: SQL Server Compact 3.5 (prerequisite)
IrisMobile.cab: IrisBG mobile installation.

You can install the cab files on the device, either by running the "IrisMobileInstaller.exe" from the program folder, or by coping the files to the device and run each installation in the order above.

STEP 4 - Installing IrisBG mobile database on the device

Before you can use IrisBG mobile on the device, you will have to install the database on the device with IrisBG Mobile Synchronizer.

Make sure the device is connected via the USB cable to the computer.
Start IrisBG mobile sync and logon.
Select the "Installation" tab.
Select "Install/reset database on device"
Review "Language sort order" and "Transfer images" options. Be aware that the "Transfer images" = Yes, may slow down synchronizing the device and consume large amount of storage space on the device.
Click start to install the database.

STEP 5 - Transfer garden maps to the device (if applicable)

If you have the IrisBG map viewer module available, you can install your preferred garden maps on the device.

Start the IrisBG mobile sync.
Select the "Transfer garden map to device" tab.
Select map type and zoom level.
Make sure the device is connected via the USB cable to the computer.
Click "Transfer maps to device".

You are now ready to use IrisBG mobile
